The goal of the National Youth Programme is to improve livelihoods through HEART Trust/NTA training intervention of 15,000 underserved youths between the ages of 17 and 30 years through our regular Community Training Intervention Programmes (CTI) across Jamaica.
The training interventions are:
- Apprenticeship/School Leavers’ Training Opportunities Programmes (SL-TOPs) to bridge the gap between school and the world of work
- Skills Training - NVQ-J certification up to Level 2
- Pre-Technology training to facilitate academic strengthening in Mathematics & English, introduction to a skill, personal development and a strategy for low achieving participants.
The Briefing Session was held on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Jamaica Conference Centre where the details of the National Programme were outlined to Members of Parliament, state agencies and NGOs working with underserved youths. The Minister of Education, Honourable Reverend Ronald Thwaites, MP, JP gave the main address. The Special Projects & Community Training Interventions Department has direct responsibility for implementing this programme.
